On the Edge of the Empire
Princess Leia — “General Kenobi. Years ago, you served my father in the Clone Wars.”
_Luke — “You fought in the Clone Wars?”
Obi-Wan — “Yes. I was once a Jedi knight, the same as your father.”
Luke — “No, my father didn’t fight in the Clone Wars. He was a navigator on a spice freighter.”
Obi-Wan — “That’s what your uncle told you. He didn’t hold with your father’s ideals; he felt he should’ve stayed here and not gotten involved.”
Leading to the downfall of the Galactic Republic was a series of events referred to as the Clone Wars.
When clones were introduced to the galaxy at large, there were several perspectives about the technology and ethical debates erupted like wildfire. Some believed use of clones would make labor more cost-effective, utilizing the skills and inherent strengths of a selected individual. Some used clones as organ donors, establishing donor farms.
Noble families which were nearly disenfranchised due to lack of a blood heir jumped at the opportunity. Wistful fantasies of reuniting with lost loved ones or renew a dynasty. Some Force-Sensitive dynasties even accepted the opportunity.
Some historian were curious about meeting famed figures from the galactic history, and provided samples to bring certain individuals back to life. Some of these individuals even included Jedi Bendu masters.
Some mercenary companies and militia groups with sufficient funds explored cloning for the purpose of bolstering their leasing pool.
Clone Civil Rights
Initially, some Jedi Bendu were sent as ambassadors alongside Republic lobbyists to peacefully negotiate with clone rights advocates.
Jedi who were cloned were highly susceptible to what became known as Clone madness.
Some Jedi Bendu provided aid to study the clone madness and help determine if the occurrences were circumstantial or avoidable.
The Clone Wars
Negotiations were well on their way to establish clones as individuals; however, an act of terror disrupted all efforts, and conflict erupted on an escalating scale across the galaxy. The military arm of the Republic quickly quelled activity in the Core and Inner Rim. The rest of the galaxy was left to fend for itself.
The Jedi entered the conflict in defense of the Galactic Republic, and as specific threats existed for the Order. Some highly skilled Jedi Bendu learned to distinguish the difference between the original source body and their cloned body. This particular characteristic was vital after several cloned Jedi Bendu were able to enter an enclave and murder all but the most skilled Masters there.
