On the Edge of the Empire

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.

Session 001
Danger lurks on the Dune Sea ...

(click to view the On the Edge of the Empire crawl)

An Imperial Star Destroyer chases a Corellian Corvette above the planet Tatooine, shooting upon the vessel to disable and ensnare. Engaging in evasive maneuvers, the laser blasts blow out the communications array and main engines. In a final desperate act, the vessel turns toward the planet.

On the planet below, within the Mos Shuuta palace belonging to Teemo the Hutt, the gangster’s entourage and guests look on as holocams turn to stream the events as they unfold. They witness the smaller vessel taking serious damage and is pulled closer by the planet’s gravity. Several escape pods jettison but are shot down quickly by the pursuing might of the Empire.

The Corvette enters the atmosphere, charring the forward section and underbelly. Moments later, an escape pod ejects and is not shot down. Soon thereafter several smaller explosions occur, expelling debris and bodies. Among the expelled debris are a set of the blaster turrets, which two from Teemo’s entourage think they recognize as disguised armored escape pods. One of these thumps into the sands near the Aurek Landing Bay, while the other impacts a series of rock outcroppings and is torn to pieces.

A freighter enters view and shortly thereafter emits a proximity alarm moments before being pelted by a shower of debris. The captain of the modified YT-1300 reacts with some fancy flying, starting with an atmospheric slide and finishing with a barrel roll. The watchers in the palace roar with acclaim, but their excitement suddenly changes to cringes and gasps as a large portion of the corvette’s bulkhead breaks off and impacts the freighter.

The ship flips and flounders a moment before the pilot engages landing thrusters and righting the ship. He sends an emergency landing “request” to the port tower, and is quickly acknowledged, albeit with disdain. The freighter lands hard, and one of the landing gears crumple with the impact.

Meanwhile, the Corvette careens into the Western Dune Sea kilometers from the plateau, creating a crash strip several kilometers in length. Charred debris litter the stretch of fused glass. The burning hulk of metal rests in several large sections.

Undoubtedly, someone will investigate …

To make matters worse, upon the horizon stirs a sandstorm.

Raymus Ardellian completes the requisite forms for parking his ship, such as its condition, and arranges for delivery of the cargo to Teemo the Hutt. Afterwards, the freighter captain trudges across the desert street to the hospital. There he is treated by the Gand doctor (Zaabhan) and informs him about the crash. After tending to the injured human, the Gand starts preparing to attend to survivors of the calamity. All the while Raymus grumbles about his ship being out of commission for a while and how much more he will owe the Hutt for repairs.

Inside the palace, Teemo the Hutt declares his desire to claim the salvage and sets about assigning a team to make it happen. The The Bothan politico Rutak Basnan is chosen to negotiate with any survivors, as well as interact with the expected Imperial contingent that shot down the vessel. The Cathar bounty hunter Senton is selected for his keen survival skills. The Klatooinian technician Gavin is selected for establishing the salvage claim and assessing initial condition. Those selected are sent to collect the doctor, who will ensure survivors are treated, and the freighter captain, who should be well enough to assist with his personal knowledge of starships.

Gavin, Rutak, and Senton discuss the turret two of them observed on the monitors, and as they collect the doctor and captain, they decide it best to detour ever so slightly in order to explore their theory about other survivors. An A-A5 Speedertruck drives around the bend to pick up the team, with the pilot signalling them all to hop inside quickly, and then points to a descending ship. All in turn look up into the sky to see an Imperial Lander circling towards the mesa.

Setting course for the wreckage, the pilot is suddenly aware of a single claw digging ever so slightly into his shoulder. The Cathar calmly requests a different route, first stopping off at some of the earlier cast off debris before routing to the main wreck itself. The driver protests, desiring to not be on the wrong end of the Hutt’s ire; however, he relents when the claw starts to pierce through his clothes to his flesh. He warns that the sandstorm is quickly moving in and will probably reach the wreck in a few hours.

Gavin and the doctor examine the life signs detector and pick up four pings at the intended coordinates. Arriving on-site, the team quickly examines the turret-pod and announces rescue to those within. Through collaboration inside and outside, the pod opens to reveal a woman in desert gear and accompanied by three troopers. Rutak recognizes her: Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan.

Her identity affirms a fact Teemo mentioned privately to the Bothan before departing: the IF transponder emitted from the crashing corvette was the Alderaanian Consular ship Tantive IV! The Hutt also revealed that the Galactic Empire had sent a message stating an investigation was in-progress regarding the vessel, and anyone alive would be wanted for questioning. To the Bothan, some pieces began to fit into place.

The Princess requisitions their assistance, while Gavin and Raymus set one of their three beacons and collect some salvage for Teemo. Rutak attempts to convince her to accompany them to the wreckage of the Tantive; however, she rebuttals with a mission she must accomplish. The approach of another salvage team interrupts the discussion; however, the Bothan smooths over the situation by arranging a compromise. He and the salvage leader quietly reveal to the Princess that the newly arrived salvage team is actually a rebel cell out of the nearby Mos Shuuta, investigating the crash and lending aid. Together they set off for the crashed vessel.

Observably the sand has been charred along a trench several kilometers in length, in some areas scorching the sand into glass. The rim of the trench is smooth in places and jagged in others. Fire and smoke emit from larger debris, while smaller scorched pieces remain hot to the touch. The trench leading up to the crashed vessel is determined to be navigable but treacherous on foot; however, the speedertruck has no trouble traversing the environs. Quickly the collaborating salvage parties reach their destination.

Some survivors of the crash are already pulling the dead from the wreckage. Others are collecting cargo to create a small barrier and are preparing for defense. Princess Leia soon identifies the individual rallying them: Captain Raymus Antilles!

A low-bearing dust cloud from Mos Shuuta when inspected through macrobinocs reveals three Imperial Reconnaissance Troop Transporters. Arrival of the investigation squad is determined to be within an hour without interruptions. Conversely, a hulking sandcrawler is observed heading towards the wreckage from the expanse of the Western Dune Sea … Jawas! Adding to complications, the sandstorm appears to be moving in equally as fast!

They collected group confers to discuss the situation, agreeing to provide the salvagers with supplies from the ship, while extracting the CFF-56 Airspeeder belonging to Princess Leia Organa. Meanwhile, a trap will be set for the Imperials to lure them inside the wreckage and then blow up the ship. Through intense deliberations, Captain Antilles is persuaded to escape with the others instead of remaining behind as a sacrifice for the Rebellion.

Through creative positioning of grenades and cable pulls attached to the speedertruck, a large breach to the cargo hold is created on the blind side of the wreckage. The CFF-56 is in remarkably good condition considering the crash, though minor repairs will be required for optimum use. Cargo is loaded onto both the Rebel cell’s speeder and the Hutt’s speedertruck. Additionally, some damaged droids and parts are loaded as gifts to the gangster. Two salvage beacons are set in positions that should minimize damage when the wreckage is further obliterated.

Ten other troopers pile into the rebel speeder on the order of Captain Antilles, while the remaining troopers are rallied to sacrifice themselves diligently to eliminate the Imperial investigation squad. The Gand doctor states he will accompany the Princess to ensure her and the survivors’ health. As a final act, the driver of Teemo’s speedertruck is considered a liability; he is thus rendered unconscious and placed next to the ship … if the explosion does not kill him, then undoubtedly the sandstorm will overwhelm him.

As the sandstorm quickens its pace, arriving upon the Tantive IV in time with the Jawa sandcrawler and the Imperial Reconnaissance Troop Transporter, Raymus Ardellian gears the speedertruck into overdrive, with the Princess and Rebels following suit. Together they turn into the edge of the sandstorm, driving over a dune, and skirting around to a clearing out of view within the Western Dune Sea. Over the rise, they view the explosion as it mixes with the sandstorm. The Rebel cell and Princess divert away from Teemo’s assigned salvage team.

The speedertruck pulls up to the gates of Mos Shuuta, flashing their access key and are permitted to enter the city. An Imperial transport is parked in front of Teemo’s palace, which a small guard of Stormtroopers. Driving casually, Raymus parks the truck near the barracks in preparation for unloading, and the group disembarks to convene with the Hutt.

Presenting the salvage report, they inform Teemo that while collecting cargo from the wreckage, a reactor leak was detected, warning was given to both the truck driver and the doctor; however, they were unable to escape in time. They further report encountering no Imperial agents by the time of their hasty departure from the wreckage. In conclusion, the salvage beacons were placed, and confirmation of integrity will commence after the storm has passed. The Hutt accepts their report, seeming more interested in the collected cargo, which includes a slightly damaged protocol droid and R2 unit. The droid is directed to processing for a data backup and subsequent memory wipe.

Teemo dismisses the salvage team, all except Raymus. Gavin, Rutak, and Senton withdraw sufficiently enough, while remaining discretely within hearing range. The Hutt informs the smuggler that his debt has increased due to the required freighter repairs. In response, Captain Ardellian feels the need for a drink. He is accompanied by the bounty hunter and politico.

Gavin, with cues from Rutak, guides the group to a small cantina in the shantytown, Reb’s Well. The place is quaint, yet crowded by locals and a few visitors. Rutak orders for the group, a round of Phoenix Risings. When the round of shots are ready, they are guided by the barkeep to a cozy booth located near the freshers, with the advice that some are unable to contend with the potency of their drink of choice. With a wink, the bartender returns to his post. The Bothan leads with a toast to his new comrades, downs the glass, and excuses himself to the fresher. In short order, Gavin, Raymus, and Senton follow with their own drinks and enter the fresher.

One of the stalls is labeled as out of service; however, that does not stop the Bothan from opening it and gesturing for the others to enter, advising for them to remember to flush. Gavin enters first, pulling the nob to flush, and the back wall opens to reveal a staircase heading down. Curiously, they proceed, with Rutak resetting the lock behind them.

Deep within the depths presents a general recreation area and a briefing stage. Another level deeper reveals a small medical bay, where the Gand doctor tends to Captain Antilles and members from his crew. Yet deeper still ies what appears to be some sort of operations center. Gavin notices several computer console models, the parts combined as a hodge podge integrated system. Further equipment in use bear striking similarity to the descriptions of pieces reported as missing over the past several months.

It is here that the group reunites with Princess Leia Organa. Rutak reveals his involvement with this secret Rebel cell. They all later convene in the recreation area for a briefing to discuss the mission of the ill-fated Tantive IV: The Organa family seeks the aide of General and former Jedi Master Obiwan Kenobi, residence in-hiding somewhere on Tatooine.

Gavin tinkers with some tech laying around. The Gand becomes familiar with the medical facilities. Raymus reviews some of the diverted cargo from the wreckage. Rutak discusses the finer points of the mission with the Princess. Senton cleans and calibrates his armament.

After some much-needed rest and becoming more acquainted with the Rebel cell in Mos Shuuta, the team is formed to search for the two droids initially jettisoned from the Tantive to look for the Jedi Master. Based upon the trajectory of the crash and timing of escape pod activation, the team sets off Eastward with two vehicles: the Princess, Captain Antilles, and two guards in her speeder, and the others in a common but comfortable landspeeder.

In short order, the pod is located, along with tracks leading away from the impact site. What concerns them most is when the pair of tracks separate, indicating divergent paths away from each other. The more trudging-like footsteps heads in a more or less Southeasterly direction, while the more track-like path heads in a more or less Northwesterly direction.

Deciding it best to not split up, the skiffs turn Southeasterly to follow presumably the protocol droid’s path first. At the rise of a dune with the dried bare remains from a large creature long dead, the golden immobile chassis is found. They determine that with the sand heavily in its gears, the droid was unable to traverse the desert much farther.

They pick up the protocol droid and turn about to follow the astromech tracks. The path is clear until they reach rockier terrain, with little indication of progress. Senton hops out to exercise his target tracking skills, and in time a small cave is found containing the blue and white R2 unit.

Their celebration is interrupted by a barrage of shots fired from the cliffs. Sandpeople! Take cover and protect the Princess!

The group provides cover, while the Princess and Captain Antilles maneuver the astromech to the speeders. The attackers appear relentless, though not terribly bright. Just when they seem to surge out more from the cliffs, a roar like that from a Krayt dragon echoes through the ravine that startles the Raiders away from their pursuit.

A strange hermit stumbles into view, stating the sandpeople are easily startled but will return and in greater numbers. He inquires what caught the attention of the raiders in the first place. Princess Leia approaches to introduce herself, indicating the group is with her in search of General Obiwan Kenobi.

“Obiwan … Now that’s a name I have not heard in a long time …”

The hermit reveals himself to be the one they seek; however, they should join him to a safer location. It is then that the group discovers the droid C-3P0 has been further damaged, having taken a rifle shot that was thought to have gone wide and missed everyone defending against the raiders. They collect the broken droid and load it into Leia’s speeder.

Together they head to Obiwan’s hovel …

Session 002
Jumping through some hoops ...

At the hermit’s hovel, Princess Leia and Captain Antilles ply their case to the General.

“General Obi-wan Kenobi, I present myself in the name of the royal family of Alderaan, and the Alliance to restore the Republic. I break your solitude at the bidding of my father Bail Organa, Viceroy and Chairman of the Alderaan system. Years ago General, you served my father in the Republic during the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to aid us again in our most desperate hours. He would have you join him on our home planet Alderaan. You must go to him! I regret that I must convey my father’s request to you in this manner, but my ship has been attacked and destroyed, and I’m afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan may have failed. I have saved information vital to the survival of the Alliance in this droid, and my father will know how to retrieve it. I plead with you to help me see this R-2 unit safely delivered to Alderaan. You must help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re our last hope.”

General Obiwan Kenobi agrees to assist Princess Leia Organa; however, there is a task he feels he must complete before departing, a task for which he requests Leia to accompany him. Leia agrees and advises the others to return to Mos Shuuta, noting that Teemo the Hutt will likely notice prolonged absence, unless they already provided believable cover stories, such as the case for the doctor.

Rutak informs them that he has a mission to meet with Biggs Darklighter at Tosche Station. Since Obiwan and the Princess are heading in that direction, they recommend he accompany them. Captain Antilles states he will tend to the droids and perform repairs while they complete their tasks. The rest return to the mesa settlement as directed, using the Rebel enclave as their point of re-entry.

The majority of the group presents a report at the briefing area, while the doctor checks in at the medical station. A cheer fills the cell after the announcement of locating the Jedi Master. This report piques the interest of a recent Wookiee arrival, who introduces himself as Wen Digo.

The Gand is startled to discover another recent arrival, the speedertruck driver who was left out at the wreckage of the Tantive IV. The driver is recovering from dehydration and exhaustion. Raymus Ardellian volunteers to smooth over the situation, revealing that the Cathar bounty hunter meted out the action to incapacitate; however, collectively the group was uncertain of the driver’s loyalties, and they opted to take no chances. The driver, Demetrius Qal-aca, accepts the explanation for what it is, and calls it sand over the dunes, open to a fresh start with them.

Raymus is joined by Gavin, Wen Digo, and the disguised doctor to check on the status of the ship, while Senton and Demetrius report to Teemo.

“Look what the cat dragged in,” one of the Hutt’s attendants snidely remarks as the Cathar and his companion enter the audience chamber.

Senton declares that he found the driver dehydrated and near to death out beyond the mesa, and promptly changes the subject by inquiring about a bounty job from Teemo. The Hutt laughs loudly, complimenting his timing, and then directs him to a more private discourse. The esteemed Jabba the Hutt has apparently placed a bounty for a smuggler by the name of Han Solo, who is known to dock at Mos Eisley. Teemo requests an intercept so that he may possess a bargaining chip over his rival. Senton recognizes the name as the Human with a Wookiee companion; however Teemo states his only concern is Solo.

Demetrius convenes with Teemo, detailing how he was blown clear of the wreck and buried in the sand. He regaled crawling out who knows how long later and set his sights for the mesa. He admitted to bare remembering the trek but clearly saw the Cathar standing over him after waking. The Hutt commands his dedicated driver to remain with the group with whom he was tasked to tag salvage, a deed for which he will be handsomely rewarded. Further, salvage collection from the wreck will be required over the next several days.

Senton and Demetrius convene at docking bay Aurek, where the others are hard at work on the Solace applying repairs. Captain Ardellian laments repairs will cost 8,000 and take the rest of the week, unless they are able to collect useful salvage from the wreck of the Tantive IV. Demetrius informs them he has been tasked with the collection and is willing to help prioritize the effort.

The bounty hunter shares the basic premise of his target, and the doctor offers to join him. The Gand notes the benefit of reducing the chance for someone in Mos Shuuta to recognize him and to assist in the non-lethal acquisition of the smuggler. Senton agrees, and they promptly depart for Mos Eisley.

Ardellian detaches the modified F-LER from its forward nest, while Demetrius and Wen Digo collect the speedertruck. In tandem, they return to the wreckage. There they observe a cadre of Imperial Stormtroopers lining up prisoners from the stranded crew; apparently the explosion did not catch them all, and a precarious firefight ensued some time after the sandstorm passed. The freighter captain opens fire upon the white armored soldiers, while the truck swings wide to attempt to bowl them over. By the end of the foray, all of the remaining troopers are killed, while one Rebel trooper lives to fight another day.

One of the Imperial transports seems damaged; however, together they hotwire it back to basic running condition. They load it up with some supplies and equipment, including all clues and remains indicating a Rebel presence, and for the Rebellion, direct the trooper to locate the hidden cell. The other fully functional Imperial transport they load up with the bodies, after removing the armor from the less severe. Together, Ardellian, Demetrius, and Wen Digo load the truck with as much salvage as they can carry, including several sheets of hull stacked on top and mag-lifted by the F-LER. The equivalent of five plastoid armor suits and blasters to match are hidden within the speedertruck for later re-purposing by the group. The functioning transport is set to tow behind the truck.

Upon return, the salvage crew delivers the Imperial equipment to Teemo in good service to present back to the Galactic Empire. They report on finding the remains of the Stormtroopers in terrible condition, noting that one of their transports was nothing but slag, a probably result of the reactor leak, with residual traces at nominal. There is no sign of the Gand doctor, for which they include a moment of honored silence.

Teemo is overall pleased by the turnout and starts arranging for more salvage teams to strip the remainder of the wreckage. Ardellian is allowed to reserve reasonable amounts required to complete repairs. Considering the situation, Teemo reduces repairs to primarily labor costs and repairs already otherwise completed. Raymus postulates if he and some of his new friends help, then he can facilitate the repairs by two days.

Senton and the Gand depart for Mos Eisley, briefly wondering if they’ll encounter Rutak along the way. Over the following two days, the duo search for the intended targetobserve, and collect. Senton’s Adventure Log Post recounts what transpires.

Rutak returns to the mesa settlement, having successfully met with Biggs Darklighter and collecting the code cylinder in his possession. The Rebel cell and he discuss a plan to provide false information by allowing the black box from the Tantive IV to be located “by chance”. The challenge they face is in having the facilities to accomplish the reprogramming sufficiently. One of the salvage runs did yield recovery of the black box and agree to meet up with a slicer Biggs recommended, and they send it out for completing the desired task.

They brief the Bothan regarding other salvage operation consequences, including the survival of the driver, Demetrius, and the fact that Imperial Stormtroopers are scouring the settlement looking for this very base of operations. So far the search has been unsuccessful, and through the Rebel’s machinations they intend to maintain their secrecy.

Amidst the reconstruction in Aurek Bay, a messenger from Teemo collects those present from the original salvage operation, all except for Demetrius. They are escorted to the palace, where they are greeting by the gangster and a guest, Imperial Hadrik. Shortly after introductions, the officer begins verbally grilling the salvage team.

Deciding to check in with the Hutt, Rutak enters to overhear the proceedings and decides to remain scarce. From the shadows he listens as they are questioned regarding the nature of the claimed radiation leak, evidence of which is next to nonexistent. From there he invades their personal space several times while he disassembles their claims pertaining to the Imperial contingent sent to investigate the wreck and return. Concluding the interrogation, he is outwardly unsatisfied by the results, though he maintains his composure in front of the Hutt.

“I’ve got my eyes on you! If you so much as THINK about jumping planet, I’ll KNOW. When you do, I will personally chase you down!”

After the others depart and return to repairs and salvage collection, Rutak approaches the Hutt and Imperial Lieutenant. Several inquiries are directed at the Bothan He simply answers, “We weren’t looking for survivors or bodies. Our priority was to secure the salvage for Teemo, and ensure no packs of Jawas would slip in to scavenge his claim.”

The politico deftly redirects the conversation to business matters. “Through family channels I have heard the possibility of some business dealings on Corellia that could be profitable to you, Lord Teemo.” he continues by regaling how his family’s status could serve as incentive to negotiate a better profit margin. The gangster considers the proposition, confers a moment with Lieutenant Hadrik, and then replies with an approval. Teemo directs Rutak to depart immediately to commence with the negotiations in preparation of an introductory shipment, and with that, the politico is escorted to Teemo’s personal launch pad to depart from Tatooine.

When repairs to the Solace are complete, Captain Raymus Ardellian and his comrades are summoned before Teemo once more. He cuts directly to business, stating the total owed for repairs equals 6,000, mostly for labor, since the majority of parts were supplied from the wreckage. On the bright side, the Hutt presents a job that will reduce that amount owed by half. Ardellian is tasked with a formal crew to extend Teemo’s effective reach to other worlds.

He has been watching him and his recent interactions closely, and from them, the Hutt has decided that his formal crew consists of …

The Hutt expresses further pressure to ensure the bounty hunter, Senton will agree to a station on the crew.

For the crew’s first assignment in this venture, Teemo proclaims a delivery of Imperial cargo must be delivered to an Imperial post on Corellia. The action will show good faith between his retinue and the primary ruling entity in the galaxy. Lieutenant Hadrik glares at the gathering, though wearing a smug and satisfied expression. The gangster provides one additional instruction, after delivering the cargo, they are instructed to meet up with their last crew member, an ambassador, Rutak Basnan.

The Imperials scan the ship, as a measure of thoroughness. Then the extensive supply is loaded onto the freighter, filling all of the external cargo pods and half of the interior cargo hold space. One cargo hold is filled with an additional delivery, with which the politico will facilitate at the proper time.

The crew loads into the ship with their belongings, hiding the Gand within. With everything in order, a final system check is run. The Captain engages the lift thrusters, angles upwards, and revs the engines to afterburn!

The crew monitors the systems as the freighter progresses through the stratosphere, enters the vacuum of space, and re-enters the atmosphere, the intention to test the integrity of the repairs and determine the extent of stress the system can endure. The hull shudders, a few plates loosening, and finally buckles.

“What was that?” Captain Ardellian exclaims and promptly sets a course for an emergency landing.

He angles the freighter for a stretch of ravine within the Jundland Wastes, the rendezvous for their secret passengers. They spot the visual signal well enough, land the craft a bit rougher than intended, due to the strain on the system, and then load up three more organic passengers and two droids, with the young boy among them disdaining the ship as a piece of junk.

A proximity alert indicates the approach of a ship, which the IFF reads as the Imperial Sentinel-class transport Eclipse, the very same which was parked in front of Teemo’s palace for the previous week. The vessel sets down nose-to-nose with the Solace, and a cadre of troops exits behind Lieutenant Hadrik.

“Trouble, boys? Let’s have a look-see, shall we?” he gestures for a team to inspect the ship while the formal crew attends to repairs and system checks.

The Sergent shakes his head to the Lieutenant upon the team’s departure from the vessel, everything appearing in order and up to normal expectations. Hadrik signals once more to the crew that he has his eyes on them. The Imperials load up on the Eclipse and return to Mos Shuuta.

Ardellian laments that the repairs aren’t perfect, but they’ll have to do until they reach a more equipped and safer facility. The crew secures the ship and returns inside to assist their passengers out from the smuggler’s hold. Collectively they prepare for departure.

With that, they leave the sandy planet behind, chart the astrogation for Corellia and engage the hyperdrive!

En route to the Core world, everyone on board enjoys the duration with honing some of their skills and becoming further acquainted.

Captain Ardellian sets the base rules upon his ship and ensures everyone acknowledges. Then he gives everyone the formal tour of the vessel, spending some extra time showing Demetrius and Gavin the navigation controls. For a time he returns to the cockpit and socializes some later during the jump, taking shifts between the co-pilot and engineer.

Gavin sets to work re-purposing the acquired plastoid armor. He suits pieces to fit the crew. The task is difficult without a fully functional work table and modification kit like he had back at the junk shop in Mos Shuuta.

Senton pulls out two devices, one which he looks at with forlorn, and the other upon which he enters a log. Afterwards he disassembles and cleans his rifle and armor pieces, ensuring all dings and dents are smoothed out and polished. He then tends to any rips and loose threads on his underarmor.

Princess Leia changes into more comfortable, noble attire, and then begins preparing the crew for meeting her family on Alderaan. Luke looks on entranced, to which the Jedi Master preoccupies the youth with introductory training in the ancient Jedi tradition.

Wen Digo steps up to lend some tutelage, revealing that he spent some time with a Jedi on Kashyyk decades ago, during the Clone Wars. The Wookiee briefly adds that has given his life to the Jedi ever since. Where the Jedi exist, so too will he go and assist them. This meeting was the Will of the Force, so agrees the Scorekeeper.

Finally the Gand cannot contain himself any longer, and reveals he once had a Jedi Master as well; however, he was slain during the Jedi Bendu Purge. He detaches a piece of equipment from his breathing apparatus and hands it to Obiwan for inspection, which he returns with a curious expression. The Gand then joins in with the training in one of the cargo bays.

Demetrius spends most of his time in the cockpit co-pilot seat. He types up his own log when not required to make course corrections.

The journey is otherwise uneventful, and the hull holds together through the hyperspace jump.

After dropping out of hyperspace, Corellia looms large, the shipyards in orbit teeming with various ships under construction or repair. The Solace receives a ping, indicating the required destination, though the console blinks out for a moment while attempting to sync with the local HoloNet. A punch to the console seems to correct the issue, and Captain Ardellian maneuvers the freighter to the station hangar bay.

The formal crew assists the passengers into the smugglers compartments, and ensures suspect possessions are hidden out of plain sight.

An Imperial inspection unit and a labor team are waiting for the freighter. Once the entry ramp lowers, a third of the laborers enter the ship and proceed to the interior cargo bay harboring the Imperial supplies, while the rest of the laborers begin opening and extracting the supply from the exterior cargo pods. After the interior cargo is unloaded, the inspection team makes a leisurely sweep through the ship. The inspection concludes without finding anything out of the ordinary, though the exterior review notes the damaged hull plating.

The Captain makes a remark likening the inspection to a particularly invasive medical procedure.

“That can be arranged,” the chief inspector replies, and an awkward silence follows.

Without further haranguing, the Solace departs from the Imperial station and heads down to the planet, carefully entering the atmosphere to divert the stress as much away as possible from the weakened hull plating. The passengers are assisted out of their hiding place once more, with the Princess eager to be on their way to Alderaan.

“Just one quick stop, and we’ll be on our way.”
Senton's Adventure Log Post
Capturing Han Solo

Senton Blacktear lounges in the cantina of Teemo’s Palace leaning back in the chair with one boot up on the table and his rifle leaning up against the wall in the corner he sits in. The music is loud but Senton seems to be lost in thought, not even hearing the notes from the band. Senton holds in his hand his beloved puzzle game which he often plays with when he is bored. It is very much like a Rubbiks Cube and just as hard. Senton is determined to figure this thing out one day but he has never even gotten close to at this point.

His mind wanders to his lost love, Asa and times past when they were together and happy on Cathar. Before their lives were turned upside down by her Father, one of the village elders who didn’t agree with their relationship. His memories turned from sweet to bitter as his mind now wanders back to him and Asa fleeing the hunters that her father had sent after them and Asa being captured. He whispers to himself, “I will find you my love” when his mind is abruptly brought back to the present as someone kicks the table Sentons foot is resting on.

One of Teemos Gamorrean thugs is standing there before Senton.

“Da Boss wants ta see ya’s”, he says to Senton.

Senton puts his puzzle game back in his coat and grabs his rifle and leaves his drink behind. He flips the bartender a credit as he passes by and gestures with a friendly nod.

Entering Teemo’s chamber he sighs, wondering how much longer he will be stuck on his rock and what Teemo wants from him now. As long as it pays good it doesn’t much matter. The only thing that does is getting his love back, wherever she may be.

Teemo gives Senton a bounty on a smuggler by the name of Han Solo. Jabba the Hutt wants this smuggler pretty bad and Teemo is hoping to use him as a bargaining chip to make some slimy deal with Jabba. Senton takes the job but is concerned because of Han’s reputation. He is known to hang out with a Wookie by the name of Chewbacca that is known to rip peoples arms off. Han is pretty good with a blaster too and is known to be really quick on the draw.

Senton comes up with an idea to drug him so things don’t get too messy. He teams up with the groups Doctor and they head off to Mos Eisley to locate this sneaky smuggler. They find him in a booth in the local cantina spending time with a young lady enjoying drinks and conversation. Thankfully, the Wookie is no where to be seen.

Senton notices the lady order a drink for Han on a dare and he takes the opportunity to stop the waitress enroute to their table and distract her while the Gand pours some tranquilizer drug into Hans already powerful concoction. Before too long, Han is out cold on the table and Senton moves in on his bounty. Pushing the panicked woman aside, Senton lifts Han over his shoulder and makes haste out of the cantina with him before any of the patrons take too much notice.

Ducking into the back alley, Senton applies his wrist binders to Han and tosses him into their waiting speeder. On the trip back to Mos Shuuta, Senton and the Gand laugh and celebrate their victory and talk about how to spend the money. 10,000 credits! Senton dreams about having some nice armor or a better rifle while the Doc thinks maybe a medical bay on the ship would be a great idea.

Pulling up to Teemo’s Palace, Senton grabs the sleeping Han and slings him over his shoulder. Gamorrean guards make way for the bounty hunter and hold open the doors escorting him to the audience chamber of Teemo the Hutt.

As Senton strolls in with the smuggler draped over his back, Teemo begins to chuckle with glee.

“What do we have here?”, the Hutt says in Huttese with a large obnoxious grin on his ugly face.

Senton replies, “Who do you think it is, Teemo? I’m here to collect my bounty and I expect to be well paid for it.” The bounty hunter lays Han across one of the tables.

Teemo laughs loudly with joy and proclaims, “Oh Senton, no need to worry. Teemo makes good on his deals and this one will be very profitable for us both.” He motions for one of his servants to go get a box of metal slips and he scammers away quickly.

“I’m gonna take a little vacation with this money Teemo. I wont be around for a bit but you know how to find me”, exclaims Senton the Bounty Hunter.

“Be sure to come back bounty hunter. I like your work”, Teemo says.

Senton nods in agreement as he turns to leave the room but mumbles under his breath, “We’ll have to see about that. We’ll just have to see.”

Journal entry.

Getting knocked out and slogging through the desert is not my idea of a good day. This crew admitted to it, at least they were forthright. Having worked with them, I admire their work ethic and they treat me as one of their own. I want to return the favor, in which I mean knocking the pilot on his ass. Then again, I feel as though I can trust them, and wish to help them at any cost. May as well leave the past behind and forge forth. These are good men who could be great allies. I’ll take the high road and hope for the best…

I've got a bad feeling about this
This group of misfits is gonna get me killed... or worse

I don’t know how I got mixed up with this band of misfits, but they’re gonna keep me on my toes. It all happened so fast. Too fast for my tastes. Somehow Teemo sent me out on a salvage mission to pay off some debt and now I’m involved in some Rebel plot that’s sure to bring the Empire down on my head. I need to make some credits, pay off Teemo and get lost on the edges. It’s where I do best.

There are some of these folk who might be helpful skulking around the edges making a living. I might just see if they hold their own and see if they want to partner up… once I can truly trust them, of course. I’m not so sure that I trust that driver that Senton hit over the head and left for dead in the desert. He was a bit too quick to forgive that.

I will say, Leia is pretty easy on the eyes… but that old man and kid with her are a bit quirky. At least it’s some human companionship. I don’t mind the others, but sometimes not being the only human on a ship is welcome. But I need them off my ship. They’ve almost cost me my life already… worse yet my ship… twice.

I’ll be happy once they’re off my ship and safely on Alderaan so that I can get paid and on to the next delivery. I don’t need any more Imperial entanglements that risk everything I’ve worked for. I’ve been driven from home by them and away from my family and friends once, but as they say, “you can’t take the sky from me.”

Session 003
Bait and hook ...

The Solace receives a relayed message from Rutak, who states he has been delayed and will rendezvous with them later. He’ll handle the negotiations here on Corellia. He will bring them their next assignment.

With this blessing in disguise, the crew agrees to have the repairs completed on the Solace to waylay any further structural vulnerabilities. Despite the plethora of construction slips and shipyards, a more discreet location is sought, and in due course a shadowport is located. Ardellian relays the repair needs to the technicians and discuss base cost with the Duros foreman.

We can have ‘er shipshape by day’s end for a mere 1,000. We’ll accept a trade of services.

While the Captain discusses the finer details, the rest of the crew inquires about other lucrative credit ventures.

In total they compile the following list of opportunities:

  • Corellian Shuffle – supply drop challenge not for the weary
  • Pillaging Pirates – harassing the local traffic and supply lines
  • Sabacc Tournament – it’s all in the cards
  • Selonian Shift – derailing a devious local crime syndicate
  • Taming the Dragon – a swoop race of epic proportions

The group weighs the options and agree to present themselves as an appetizing target to some local pirates. The party is granted use of a stripped-down freighter, essentially mobile cargo pod, to aid the deception. The Galactic Senator and her entourage agree to remain at the shadowport and oversee the repairs.

While the faux cargo ship is prepared, the group analyzes the regional data to determine the best location to encounter the pirates. The coordinates decided upon yield an object detected near one of the introductory zones of the Corellian Trade Spine hyperspace lane, with further sensor readings assessing the object to be a rogue asteroid. Such an object would force a ship out of hyperspace. Once all is set, the Demetrius and Gavin astrogate and set a course to be forced out of hyperspace, without impacting the asteroid.

As arranged, the freighter drops out of hyperspace near the asteroid, with Ardellian making an exaggerated evasive maneuver to avoid the obstacle. Moments later an ion blast hits the ship, and an unidentified vessel looms large. The freighter receives an incoming message, ordering the crew to stand down and prepare to be boarded. The ship shakes as the ships touch, and a docking corridor is attached to the cargo personnel hatch.

Wen Digo takes up position by the cargo door. Senton and the Gand pair up at the foremost palette of crates, while Ardellian and Demetrius hunker down behind the rear stack of crates. Gavin nestles into a spot at the rear of the cargo bay, his rifle at the ready.

The pirates burn through the blast door and receive quite the surprise from a crew prepared to fight instead of surrender. In response, the pirate ship fires upon the freighter bridge, incurring a vacuum within the ship. The pirates are prepared with space masks and magboots, holding firm in their position, while the freighter crew are beset by disadvantage.

Despite the odds, the ragtag band kills most of the pirates, before the captain and bridge crew retreats back to their own vessel. Sealing the loading door behind them and activating their loader droid for defensive protocols, the pirates separate the ships, hoping to escape without further losses. The faux supply ship launches a grappler at the pirate ship for a precarious tow.

The Gand withdraws his inherited lightsaber, and drives the orange blade into the pirates blast door, intending to cut a hole and allow easy access for his companions. Despite his persistence, his efforts are for naught, for the cargo door remains too thick to breach. Several others gear up in magboots and space masks that fit, while Wen Digo makes do with just a rebreather and grabbing a pair of boots in his paws, strong-arming his own space walk. Gavin hacks the exterior access panel, and they gain entry to the depressurization port.

The cargo loader looms large in its defensive protocol on the other side, and gas soon fills the chamber. Gavin quickly re-opens the external port to suck out the gas, and closes the door again once cleared. Several well-placed ion blasts incapacitate the droid, and the technician promises to reprogram it later to belong to their own crew.

They quickly weave their way to the bridge, drop the co-pilot and gunner, and give the captain two options: live and tell all he knows … or die. The pirate mentally crumples and reveals that he’s working for someone else, someone with more power and influence than they could imagine. He then begs for them to spare his life. After a shared devious expression with each other, they blast the captain on stun settings. They lock the pirate in a crate and secure the tow on the faux supply ship. With both ships under their command, the group returns to the shadowport.

Ardellian mediates the delivery of the pirate captain and pirate ship, and in return, his crew is allowed to keep whatever supply and loose equipment can fit on the Solace within the interior cargo holds. While the repairs are completed, Raymus and his crew select cargo, medical supplies, some weapons, the loader droid, and equipment enough to build a decent technician’s work station. Then the crew goes to balance-check the credsticks that they removed from the pirates.

After all is said and done, and the supplies are loaded, the techs at the shadowport openly invite the crew to return and help out further in the future. The crew of the Solace and its passengers set in and depart for their next destination. They set right to work assembling the work table to busy themselves for the several hour flight to …

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Hunt

Repairs, repairs, repairs. The Solace seems to have a hull integrity issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible, or at least before trying anything more than suborbital flight. Oh, how ironic. I’m stuck on this rock trying to keep the attention level low and in order to get the parts and credits to fix the ship I have to go out on exploits that could expose me. I can’t risk him finding out I’m here.

We just completed a raid on a pirate ship where as the prey we ended up being the bait. After nearly being spaced the ship we had borrowed was crippled and we had to board the attacking ship. Killing some of their crew and capturing a droid we took control, retrieved some valuable intel and gathered a few “resources” for ourselves.

This little rag-tag group is starting to show signs of working together like a finely tuned squad of Stormtroopers… but just showing signs. They still have a long way to go before becoming mindless drones following orders blindly.

I’ve got to remain careful, not revealing myself before I find him. Perhaps I should get off this rock before too much longer just to be safe. I will come back and find him at a later time.

Session 004
A royal welcome ...

Princess Leia utilizes the comms to acquire access through her home planet’s defense shield. During the wait, the Solace syncs slowly with the local HoloNet system, glitching again. Ardellian swears to have that properly diagnosed and mutters to his co-pilot about not recommending that Corellian shadowport for electrical work.

Her father, Bail Organa welcomes their arrival with a small and trusted entourage. With the delivery of R2-D2, which houses the plans to the Imperial battle station, techs escort the droids to where another operative, Biggs Darklighter, awaits with a code cylinder.

Bail Organa tasks one of his finance advisors to dispense payment from the Organa coffers for the charter (in the amount equivalent to 17,000, distributed in variable currencies).

The crew of the Solace is presented with the opportunity to choose between formally joining the Rebel Alliance or following a freelance association. The Gand eagerly expresses desire to join, with Wen Digo strongly in favor. The crew as a whole, however, decides to remain freelance.

The arrival of Jedi Master and General Obiwan Kenobi presents more than just a morale boost as the two friends are reunited for the first time in over a decade. In secret, Alderaan has continued a Praxeum but without a formal Master. Bail beseeches Obiwan to join the cause and formally train the awaiting potentials. Zaahban, Luke Skywalker, and Wen Digo urge him to take on the mantle once more. The Jedi Master is uncertain, recalling the fall of his former pupil, Darth Vader. He requires some time to consider the request, first communing with Will of the Force. In the meantime, he and several others partake in a tour of the Praxeum.

The following day …

The Organa Noble House hosts a grand gala to celebrate the beginning of a new age. Officially the social gathering marks a new chapter in investments for the noble house, and unofficially welcoming the Princess for her successful mission to Tatooine, returning with General and Jedi Master Obiwan Kenobi.

During the festivities, Raymus Ardellian meets a noble introducing himself as Fa Ron Rysh. The gala coordinator presents an opportunity to the freighter captain, and they negotiate a fee for services rendered. Afterwards, Raymus informs his crew of their next job.

The Imperial Star Destroyer Devastator arrives at Alderaan during the celebration. Darth Vader, with a small retinue including Lt. Hadrik, shuttles down to the planet and demands an audience with the Organa household. Imposing upon the household, Vader reports the crash of the Tantive IV on Tatooine and preceding activity of the vessel. Furthermore, he delivers the decree made by the Emperor dissolving the Imperial Senate. Then he declares the arrest the Organa household.

Vader – I traced the transmission of the plans to the Princess. You are all part of the Rebel Alliance and traitors! Take them away!

Meanwhile, Obiwan and the princess slip out of sight to make plans for escape. The crew of the Solace assist and splits up to aid extraction of the Princess and the Jedi.

Vader – I sense something, a presence I’ve not felt since …

The Dark Lord departs, leaving Lt Hadrik to round up the Organa family and take them to his ship.

Extraction of the secret Jedi Praxeum is under way when Darth Vader arrives with his 501st Sabertroopers, a remnant of the Jedi who joined the Sith to purge the Jedi Bendu when the Galactic Empire rose to power. Wen Digo persuades Obiwan from needlessly sacrificing himself to ensure the others escape; however, in the process, Vader throws his crimson saber and severs one of the Wookiee’s arms. Luke grabs the controls of the shuttle and engages the engines!

Outside, the Solace disables Vader’s parked shuttle, and the crew extracts the arrested Organa Nobles on board. Then escorting the Bendu shuttle, the two ships angle a route away from the Star Destroyer in orbit, narrowly evading a second arriving Star Destroyer. They set course … for Yavin!

Fame, Fortune, Adventure
I'll take what I can get.

Dancin’ ain’t for me, but a gathering is always a good way to get information on people and find potential opportunities. We got the Princess and her entourage of the old man and the kid to Alderaan and we were all invited to at the end of the week.

Part way through the festivities a fancy dresser came up and offered an opportunity to me. I was able to negotiate what seemed a good deal at the time for the ship and crew, but now I’m wondering if it was indeed a setup job.

Not long after that a Star Destroyer came into orbit around Alderaan and began shooting an Ion Canon into the shield array so they could enter the planetary atmosphere with an Imperial shuttle. The good news is that it wasn’t just a bunch of rag tag Stormtroopers out for a night of frolicking and fornication… no, it was a very special guest, the Emperor’s enforcer himself, Darth Vader.

Knowing my part in this play was coming to a close I sent Demetrius to the Solace to get her warmed up, then passed word around to round up our passengers and get them to the ship so we could help them get to safety. Thinking back, I don’t know why I even bothered, but for some reason it seemed to be the right thing to do at the time. Demetrius, Gavin, Senton and I hastily picked up the beepy droid with the plans for the Emperor’s new space station and rendezvoused with the Princess, Obi Wan, Luke, the Gand and Wen Digo, who seems to have gotten the worst from Darth Vader. We destroyed the ground shuttle and rescued Lea’s family whilst Wen Digo and the Gand rescued the others. It is there that they faced off against Vader. Ballsy. I’ll give them that.

We got everyone on board and I high tailed it out of there and punched into Hyper-space and made our way to Yavin to drop our passengers off for safety. We checked in for a little R&R plus some repairs to the ship – nothing new there. A few days later we decided to get back in the black and track down the convoy we were hired to divert. Jumping into hyperspace in front of them with a plan to play opossum we ran into a frigate ahead of the convoy. They appeared to be a scout ship for the convoy but Demetrius noticed something off about them. As we looked closer it seemed to be that they very much resembled the pirates we defeated.

Using surprise we pounced on their ship disabling the engines and then blasting the bridge before they could react. Wen Digo and the Gand doctor hitched a ride on the F-Ler to their cockpit and spaced the remaining crew. Cruel and brutal, but that’s the pirate way. It’s a good thing neither of them believe in that Force crap.

Once we “liberated” the frigate we used it as a crybaby, attaching ourselves to the underbelly of her and laid in wait for the convoy. Once it arrived we moved to attack and disabled the engines on the train, but Demetrius once again noticed something off… two anomalies on either side of the train.

We had Wen and the Gand doctor fire the ion cannons from the captured frigate to expose two very odd ships riding parallel with the train. They had an unusual armor on them that was prohibiting blasters from penetrating. In fact, at one point Wen and the doctor who were space walking to the ship got projected off the ship and began floating in space. I was able to catch them with the F-Ler before they got too far out. Blasting one of the containers on the train Wen and the doctor were able to go in and subdue the guards on board. Something about a Wookie waving what used to be a co-worker’s limb a few seconds earlier around like a club sure takes the fight out of them.

Now that we’ve secured the train I think it’s ‘bout time we had a bit more discussion among the crew to decide what we’re going to do next.
